The 90s are back, baby!!! The era of my childhood has flooded the fashion world, and I am obsessed.
My style icons were Liv Tyler, Cher & Dion (Clueless, if you didn’t catch the reference) and every other woman on MTV. But, being that my mom was in charge of my closet, I never got to let my 90s freak flag fly.
Now that I am a grown-up, I am taking a well-planned out splash in this style pool. Here’s a list of the trends I’ve embraced and how I plan to work them into my fall wardrobe.
My first pair were known around my way as Jodeci Boots and adorned with glow-in-the-dark Band-Aids. The fad died fast, but I never gave up my love for a solid pair of Doc Martens.
Skinny jeans are a high-pressure situation for me. Between my big feet and long legs, there was a 50/50 chance I would look like a clown. However, the resurgence of dad, mom, and boyfriend jeans offer forgiving options that can flatter any girl.
One, I was a chubby kid. Two, my father would have never let me expose my midriff, so a crop top was never an option. No matter your shape, pairing this reemerging trend with a high waist bottom is an excellent way to try the fad.
I went straight Claire Danes with it when I was a teen. I wore my slip dress exclusively over a white tee and paired it with the cleanest Chuck Taylors I owned. Today, I crave a sleeker look that’s ready for a night out.
I rocked the black velvet Clueless-esque choker in junior high. But today the options are limitless. From metals, DIYs and denim, this is an affordable way to transform a look in seconds.
I appreciate a good nude lip, but a berry lip has always had a fond place in my heart. Once saved for brunch with the girls or a fall evening, I'm going to rock it whenever I want.
Leather Biker Jacket
These leather beauties have always been a staple in my wardrobe. However, with your favorite stores stocking these edgy jackets, the options are now limitless.
Denim on Denim
The Canadian Tuxedo is back in full effect! Mixing denim colors like the Karl Kani sets of the 90s have made getting dressed even easier.
Coachella brought the bandana back to my attention. This inexpensive accessory is an easy way to add a pop of color to my typically neutral wardrobe.
Tell me. What flashback trends are you incorporating into your fall wardrobe? Which ones are you avoiding?
